A few things to think about when you book your pap smear…
- A long appointment (30 minutes) is recommended for a pap smear
- Aim to book your pap smear for a time you don’t have your period. If the pap smear is contaminated with blood it is often invalid and needs to be repeated.
- If you are post-menopausal you may benefit from some vaginal oestrogen cream prior to your pap smear. If your doctor has advised you of this you should contact the practice for a script so that you can start using the cream 2 weeks before your pap smear.
